I love music. I've been playing the drums forever, and i've been recently developing my guitar skills. I also like to play any other instrument I can get my hands on.
So what is Zimbo? That's just the name I started tagging all my songs with after I recorded them. I grew to like it, so now that's what I call myself when it comes to the music I've written.

H Agape Tou Ponirou - 5/11/2007 - You might have noticed the title to this one is not in English. Its Greek. Though there are no words to this song, I still consider it a Greek song, and you'll know why if you listen. The title translates roughly to say "The Lover of the Sneak" but can also mean "The Sneak's Love." It sounds a lot cooler in Greek, trust me.
Easy Rider - 4/22/2007 - Self explanitory. Easy Rider.
Mary - 4/14/2007 - I got an idea for a new project. If I continue with it, this will be the first/one of the first songs on the project. It's a small adventure through the social life of a 14 year old girl named Mary.
Rainy Day Shambling - 2/15/2007 - People keep telling me this sounds very Asian, and other people say it sounds like something out of a nintendo game. I didn't intend for either, but I accept both.
Foxes Dressed As Chickens - 11/19/2006 - This entire song was inspired by a bumper sticker. I saw one that said "A Wolf In Sheeps Clothing," and nothing else. I thought to myself, "how cliche, is that all you have to say?" So as I walked along, I thought about how I enjoyed what the bumper sticker said, and the image it created, but I was annoyed that someone would just stick a cliche sticker on there giving it really no meaning. So I thought, how else can I create that same image, and I thought "Foxes Dressed as Chickens." Right away I got a vast mental image of some sort of disturbing party or event that no one would ever really want to be at, or some place in life where a person might get stuck and want desperately to escape from. I wrote this song about my mental image.
Whiskey Run - 12/12/2006 - Kids these days don't know how to have fun without the ol' bottle.
Tangled Up in Blue - 12/20/2006 - This is a cover of "Tangled Up in Blue," by the amazing Bob Dylan.
Froggy Went A-Courtin - 1/29/2007 - I first heard this song on Bob Dylan's album, "Good As I Been To You," (though its a tradition folk song that dates as far back as 1580) and I just thought it was absolutely the most adorable song I ever heard. I couldn't bear how cute it was, I had to record it. Hope I didn't ruin it.
Carnival Forest - This is just a pre-recorded track that I played to give us some time to set up. For more details you can find it in the Idle Time section.
Broken Bones and Skipped Stones - Wrote this only a few days before the performance
River in the Sea - Inspired by the idea of, "wouldn't it be cool if we could look up and see fishes and whales and stuff swimming in the sky?" Well, I thought it would be cool so I wrote this song.
Tides are Shifting - And the moon's not on your side...
Hopeless When Left Alone - Well, its a theory.
Chatting with Luke (No Music) - Heres a little clip of me and Luke chatting it up. Luke is the host of the show I was on, and he's a nice guy. Listen in on his radio show "The Sermon" on 98.1 WXVU, Thursdays at 8:30. He's got great taste in music, so you should enjoy his show. If you want to hear from the band Pasadena I mentioned, check them out here.

Right away I got a vast mental image of some sort of disturbing party or event that no one would ever really want to be at, or some place in life where a person might get stuck and want desperately to escape from. I wrote this song about my mental image. Unfortunately during this recording and some of the ones before it, my throat was incredibly dry so my throat was squeeking a bit. For a cleaner, nicer version of this song, look in the "Uncatagorized" section.
Waiting for Trouble - I had a little personal adventure wandering around.
To Mexico and Back - This is a live version of the same song that is in the "Idle Time" section. More information about it there. The first version is called "To Mexico and Back" and the second version (with drums and an up-beat tempo) is called "Mexico Revisited."
The Thongs - Hit Me Baby One More Time - This is a cover of the old Britney Spears song. I'm playing the drums and rythm guitar on this recording, my friend Brian Albany is singing, and my brother Dino is melting your face on the lead guitar.
Walk in the Rain - Pre-recorded, can be found in "Idle Time."
Little Sadie (Folk) - Pre-recorded, can be found in "Idle Time."
Honest Man - Pre-recorded, can be found in "Idle Time."
Mercenary - If you think you know what this song is about, you dont. Trust me.
Beautifully Solitaire - Live version of an old song. Can be found in "Idle Time" for more info.
You're a Big Girl Now (cover) - This is a Bob Dylan song. A great one.
Beautiful - She is, isn't she.
The Field Hall - This song has all the same structure as Bob Dylan's "Desolation Row." Hearing desolation row inspired me to write this song, so all the lyrics are by me. The chord progression is by Dylan.
Zimbo - 10/9/2006 - Well my grandfather came over one day and had no idea that I recorded music. I told him i'd make him a CD so he could hear all this stuff, but my "Idle Time" CD wasn't quite finished. It still needed about 5 more minutes to fill an entire CD, so as he chatted away with my parents, I got to work. This is what I came out with to finish off the CD.
Little Sadie (Folk) - 10/4/2006 - Like the title implies, this is an old folk song. I did not write it. It's gone by many different names, and has been played by more people than I know. It's been called "Bad Lee Brown," "Cocaine Blues," "In Search of Little Sadie." Bob Dylan recorded two versions of it on his Self Portrait album, and Johnny Cash played a famous version of it (I think its featured in that movie of his). For more info about it, check out what wikipedia has to say about it. I first heard it on Bob Dylan's Self Portrait album, and loved it. Decided to learn it. Then I decided to record it. And here we are today. It's a wonderful song, hope you like my version here.
Kilkelly (Cover) - 10/4/2006 - This song was originally written by an American born songwriter, Peter Jones in the early 80's. Apparently he found some old letters that his great great grandfather, Pat McNamara, wrote to his great grandfather, John. John moved to America, and this song is like a record of the letters Pat sent to his son from Ireland. For more info, read up. When I first heard this song, I was amazed at how beautiful it was. Hopefully my version didn't ruin this truly beautiful song. Seriously, I would be ashamed because this song is really amazing. I HIGHLY SUGGEST you read the lyrics as you listen, to make sure you digest every word. Lyrics. Or just type "Kilkelly lyrics" into Google.
Your Fancy Dress - 9/19/2006 - Finally, I got around to putting some music to one of the songs I wrote on my trip up to Penn State, like a month ago. I don't remember exactly what I was thinking about when I wrote this, but I don't really care cause I like it, hope you do too. I think you might!
Step Back, Lose Control - 9/13/2006 - I've been listening to a lot of this kind of music lately. So while jamming on my drums, I tightened up the snare drum to try and reproduce the sound the other guys are always getting. The beats I started kicking out with the tightened up snare drum inspired me to make a whole song out of this. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.
This is Me - 9/11/2006 - It took me a few days to get this one finished, which I usually don't like. Normally I like taking a nice long chunk of time out to do a song and getting it done with and forgetting about it. But i've been busy so I had to break this one up. Pumped out to "takes" before I could do this final one.
Sing for Me - 9/6/2006 - Again, instead of getting to all the new songs i'd been writing, I recorded something else. While in a weird deep corner of my computer harddrive, I found an old word document with some lyrics on it. It dated back to September 25th 2005, and I'm pretty sure I remember what I was talking about when I wrote it. So finding it made me happy. Along with this file, I found two old .wav recordings I did of myself singing the lyrics, just so I wouldn't forget how to sing it. Well, I forgot, but its a good thing I made those recordings, because they inspired me to make this recording.
Honest Man - 9/5/2006 - So I went away for a 3 day weekend, and while I was away I wrote probably a half a dozen song along with some ones I wrote before I left. I wrote them on the car ride, in the middle of parties, or just sitting around. I came home excited to use them all, as I am very satisfied with all the writing. This song, Honest Man, is not one of those songs. This song just kinda came to me as I was sitting around. The lyrics almost wrote themselves. I liked them so much I picked up my guitar and played something. So I started recording and heres what came out.
When the Wind Becomes the Breeze 8/26/2006 - I wrote this one late Saturday night while the rest of the house was asleep. I originally recorded it with just the vocals and the guitar (so I wouldn't wake everyone up), and I decided a few days later to try and rerecord it with the fuller sound. Heres what came out.
Entourage - 8/6/2006 - This song was made kind of as a joke. It was inspired entirely by my friend Sean's spontaneous outbreak into song out of excitement to watch the next episode of Entourage. The little tune he made up got stuck in my head and I needed to make this song in order to get it out. Even though its a joke, though, I figured it couldn't hurt to upload.
Candid Moonbeams - 8/6/2006 - My favorite part of this song is the title. I recorded it because I just felt the need to record something. After it was mostly done, I listened to it and thought about a title. As I listened, the name Candid Moonbeams came to me, and I envisioned all these beams of light bouncing off the moon, having a good old crazy time while all the people are asleep and not watching. I imagined this music was painting the picture for the true personality of moonbeams. Mmmm, I swear
I'm not insane.
Mexico Revisited - 8/4/2006 - This is the same song as "To Mexico and Back," re-recorded with drum and bass backings. I thought, hmm, what would this song sound like with some drums, bass guitar, and a faster-pace? Well, this is the answer to that question.
Carnival Forest - 7/29/2006 - This song freaks me out. I wrote it the day after "Walk in the Rain" because I felt like Walk in the Rain ended up being a little bit to short, and I still had some of the energy of
recording that one in me. Hours later, I churned out this freakshow. I love it, hope you might to.
Walk in the Rain - 7/28/2006 - This song is very mellow. I really felt like recording something, so I started, and this is what came out a few hours later. There are a lot of different instrument layers on this track, Pianos, flutes/whistles, guitar, Tzoura, and a lot of other stuff. I'm very pleased with the way it turned out.
Keep on Livin' - 7/18/2006 - I decided to mess around with that old keyboard thats been hiding out, and get my fingers better acquainted with the keys. So I made up this piano riff. Then the rest of the song built itself around it. The lyrics were partially inspired by a random sudden storm that started outside my window.
Crystal at the Top of the Hill - 7/15/2006 - This is a fun one. I initially wrote the chorus to this song when I was in say, the first grade. Before I first picked up my first drum sticks. I wrote the lyric, "Its the Crystal at the top of the hill, no one can reaching and its sitting still" to accompany the random strumming on the cheap department store
acoustic guitar I just received as a gift. This recording was done because on the day it was recorded, my brother decided to mock my on how stupid that song was, and I defended it, saying I still thought the lyric was a bit poetic. So to not let this gem fall into the realm of something a stupid little kid did because he was stupid, I put a real guitar riff to it and built the rest of the song around that chorus and the basic way that I once sung it.
Party UP - 5/15/2006 - I don't really remember why exactly I did this. I think it was inspired by a mixture of listening to techno music, and messing around with the settings on a guitar "distorter" that my friend left at my house. I was amused by the "Pixel" effect that it gave, so I used that and mixed it with some other effects to make this sound.
You Don't Know - 5/1/2006 - A bluesy, bassy, relaxed diddy. As are a lot of things I do, this was somewhat inspired by Jim Morrison and the bluesy feel of The Doors. The bass line is a bastardized version of a riff my brother used to play on the guitar. I tried to figure it out, and I came up with this bassline. I played it for my brother and he showed me how off I was. But I liked my new version enough to make it it's own song. So I did. And here it is. Enjoy.
Why Try? - 5/1/2006 - A fast paced distorted rock song. Inspired by my first year at University.
Shake It - 4/28/2006 - Driving home from class, I heard a 60's surfer jam on the radio. I have no idea what song it was, but it inspired me to make this. I sat down on the drums and started recording the base beat. I put a bass and guitar rhythm to match it, and I added in a fun and simple little guitar solo. From then, all the was left was some classic Jim Morrison-esque shouting and it was complete.
Summer Jam - 4/25/2006 - A summer jam. Inspired by the winter/early spring's ability to make me wish it was summer.
Triplets - 3/22/2006 - Synched up guitar and drumming triplets. This was inspired by two things. The Drums are a sort of spin off of something I learned from my drum teacher, years and years ago. I always liked it so I always mess around with different ways of doing it. The guitar was inspired by my attempt at figuring out a certain method of playing that Bob Dylan described in his book, Bob Dylan; Chronicles; Volume 1. As I was trying to figure it out, I came up with this a long the way. This track is really just a mesh of the two things together, so it's not one of my favorites exactly. Still, I enjoy the sound of it.
Chillin' 2 - 3/22/2006 - Another 60's style mellow guitar solo. This was inspired entirely at the time by my other track, "Chillin' 1."
Chillin' - 3/19/2006 - A 60's style mellow guitar solo. Inspired entirely at the time by the distortion settings my guitar was giving off.
The Curse - 2/23/2006 - This might sound like a political protest song, but it isn't really. It's more just pointing out how annoying it is that "The good is always running out," today and through out history. I called it "The Curse" and wrote it from the point of view of a frustrated young man who is noticing the curse more and more every where he turns. I apologize ahead of time for the awful sound my voice makes on this track.
To Mexico and Back - 2/14/2006 - A Dylan-esque
folksy song about...Mexico? I don't remember what I was talking about and to tell you the truth,
I'm not sure I knew what I was talking about then either. But I like following the weird story I made, and I love the way the music goes with the words. This one was definitely inspired by Bob Dylan, as is a lot of stuff I do.
Space Oddity (David Bowie Cover) - 1/6/2006 - Backtrack! I just found this old recording I did a while before I really started doing these recordings. I think I recorded this just as I found out about the program I use to make these, and recorded this just to test it out. I had learned this song a little before and it was one of the few songs I could play all the way through, so I recorded it, and took advantage of the tracks to add in the clappings and the countdown. Good times.
Beautifully Solitaire - 12/05/2005 - Backtrack even farther! I just found this recording, I wrote it after the first snowstorm of the season. I hate the winter and cold and such, but during the first snowstorm I looked up and kinda felt inspired to write this. Listen to the song and you'll see what I mean. I recorded this with an old mp3 player/recorder I have, I just set it down in front of me, plugged myself into some amps, hit record and played the song. No fancy tracking like the rest of them.
